The Races of Elephant Mud
What is a race?
Your race defines your physical make-up when you start out adventuring
within the Western Realms of Elephant Mud. There is a wide range that you can
choose from, including humans, elves, dwarves, giants and many more. Each
one is different in a number of ways, and all have their own bonuses and
penalties. Choosing your race is an important decision, as it is not
normally changable once you have started, unless the most powerful magics
are brought to bear.
Which one is best?
No one race is best, although many people have their definite preferences.
Generally though, what a race gains in bonuses in one sphere is then made
up for with penalties elsewhere. Thus if you know which class you want to
join, you may wish to choose a race whose bonuses match the required
attributes of the class. Do not be too hasty though, for while a Giant
Fighter may seem ideal, you may find that you can do little else but fight....
What else should I know?
As well as the intrinsic penalties and bonuses of each race, one must bear
in mind that some races just do not get on well with each other. This being so,
a Half-Orc could expect to have a hard time buying things in an Dwarven town,
whereas a Faerie would do much better in trade with an Elf. Since humans
are the most prolific of races, this means that the more 'evil' races, such
as half-orcs and giants may find it hard to hold onto their money while in
the majority of the Realm. You can click here to see a
