This page shows images taken of the ASRV-2 launch, in March, 1997. Most of the images are framegrabbed stills from the AspireSpace onboard CCD colour video camera, which transmitted the images to the ground via the main onboard telemetry system.
Image Details
This framegrabbed video image shows the view from the ASRV-2 rocket on the ascent. This image shows the view seconds before apogee altitude was reached, and the parachute system was deployed.
At this point, the launch crew down on the ground were holding their breath !

Image Details This framegrabbed video image is taken just after recovery system deployment. In the lower half of the image, one can see the booster section of the ASRV-2 rocket, which has just separated from the payload section. Note that smoke can still be seen coming out of the hot motor at the bottom of the booster section. The smoke in the top of the booster section is due to the recently fired pyrotechnic charge which deployed the parachute system. |
Image Details This framegrabbed video image shows the view from the ASRV-2 rocket a couple of minutes after the previous image, as it descends through the clouds following parachute deployment. The descent was slow due to a higher wind speeds above ground level. This provided an opportunity to obtain much longer video footage than on previous flights. |
