Project Title: Penumbral Waves in Sunspots
Project Description:
Measure the trajectories and velocities of running penumbral waves in
sunspots. Analytical and observational. Extensive use of digital
image analysis.
Background Information:
These waves were discovered by Alan Stein, a CIT undergrad, and called
Stein waves by many. They fan out from sunspots radially. Last year we
found new ways of analysis that enabled us to measure then more
accurately. This summer we should measure existing data and try to get
new, more comprehensive data, using what we have found.
