Project Title: Analyze Data from Big Bear Solar Observatory
Project Description:
The student will analyze data obtained from Big Bear Solar
Observatory, to understand the structure and evolution of active
regions, and to study the relationship between magnetic fields and
solar flares.
Background Information:
The Sun is undergoing 11-year activity cycles. At the peak of each
cycle, many sunspots emerge which can produce activities like flares,
surges, and filaments. Study of the structure of the active region can
help us to understand the physics of solar activities. On the other
hand, study of quiet Sun can help us to understand coronal heating and
solar wind.
