AXV-6 Flight Images

This page shows images taken of the AXV-6 launch, in September, 1996. Most of the images are framegrabbed stills from the AspireSpace onboard CCD colour video camera, which transmitted the images to the ground via the main onboard telemetry system.

Image Details This framegrabbed video image shows the view from the AXV-6 rocket test flight during the recovery system deployment sequence. In this image, apogee altitude has just been reached, and the pyrotechnic charge has just separated the payload section from the booster section, (hence the smoke coming out of the front of the booster section). The booster section has not yet started to fall away.

Image Details In this framegrabbed video image, the booster section has started to fall away from the payload section, and the link between the sections is unwinding.

Image Details This image shows the booster section a fraction of a second later, as it is still falling away from the payload section.

This framegrabbed video image shows the view from the onboard video camera a minute later, after the recovery system has deployed completely, and the rocket has started its descent.
