ASRV PAYLOADS |
A standard payload module has been designed for the ASRV
following on from the experience gained with the ADV-1, Subroc and ASPIRE I rockets.
The payload module plugs into the avionics and telemetry
module. The avionics and telemetry system includes a number
of sensors and test instrumentation. Those sensors which are responsive to external stimuli have a small opening in the side of the rocket, with which to undertake sampling. In the case of the airspeed sensor, a pitot tube is connected to the sensor and mounted through the centre of the nosecone.
The ASRV rockets carry an onboard miniature colour CCD video camera
payload with real-time telemetry, as with the ADV-1 and Subroc rockets.
A payload has been designed and built for the ASRV rockets by
the University of Kent at Canterbury.
ASRV AVIONICS |
The ASRV rockets currently carry a 8032-based flight computer to provide control of
onboard systems and handling digital telemetry data from the onboard
sensors. The flight computer is connected to an advanced
experimental telemetry system using direct FSK (Frequency Shift Keying)
modulation of the RF carrier. An error-correcting packet type
protocol is used for data transfer. The telemetry data is
transmitted to the ground station by a VHF radio link.
