TurboCell RADIUS Support
For Internet Service Providers with hundreds of thousands
of customers, centralized account management is a must.
KarlNet is pioneering the use of the RADIUS (Remote Dial-In
User Service) standard for authentication and management
of wireless stations and users.
Most current wireless products have minimal methods to
allow or prevent access to the wireless link. Planned
for general release in Q1 2000, TurboCell will enable
service providers to authenticate
both wireless stations and wireless station users to a
centralized RADIUS server.
RADIUS is not only useful for checking login names and
passwords, but is also capable of returning configuration
information to the ISP Base Station to which the user
is connected. This enables administrators to change a
user's data rate for a free trial period, or deny service
to a user for failure of payment. Based on the ISP's business
model, RADIUS is capable of denying or accepting connections
based on time of day or other connection information (such
as the base station the user is connected to). This allows
the Wireless ISP to sell roaming services at different
rates than fixed wireless service.
